    How Does Acupuncture Work?

"How Does Anesthesia Work? How Does Aspirin Work? We Do not know. But, it isn't stopping any of you from using them. Come up with a better criticism for acupuncture."

    - Dr. Pourhassani, DACM -

How Does Acupuncture Work? Is not a good question.  It’s not specific enough. Acupuncture for what?  How does acupuncture work for (insert specific condition)? Would be a better question.

For patients, for over a decade I’ve wasted my time providing scientific explanations; they proved to be unteachable, and more concerned with their uneducated beliefs. If you want to learn how acupuncture works; I suggest you devote your life studying.

You’re really not concerned about how acupuncture works.  You are concerned about a health condition; which typically no other health care provider has a solution for.  And, you want to know if I can help.  Maybe, you need to be evaluated.  By who?  By me.

A simple explanation is the best.  All of you have been to doctors…It is no different. I know it is different; I am nice to you.  I will evaluate, diagnose, and provide recommendations.  If you require more from me than other medical professionals because you “do not believe” in my work; you will need to go do what you believe in.  This burden has been placed on me for over a decade and I am no longer engaging in such relationships.

This is how acupuncture works under my care: (buzzkill; I do more than acupuncture). Check my scope of practice. I diagnose. I provide recommendations. I add and subtract therapies.  I refer you to other specialists (if I deem it medically necessary). I do not join your ‘team’, I review their work critically.  I take over your case.

    • I evaluate, review medical charts, do exams, run labs, refer, whatever I deem medically necessary.
    • My scope of practice includes more than acupuncture. I will recommend what may help you, it may not be acupuncture.
    • I am not an insurance provider. My ‘contract’ is only with the patient.  I work for the highest good of the patient.
    • The patient is expected to follow directions, if they do not; we end our relationship. Forever.
    • I don’t obtain results others do not because I allow patients to do whatever they want. I allowed such previously, and all had failures.  I do not work for failures.

In closing how acupuncture works; I check to see if I may be able to help you. If I cannot; I will not ‘TRY’.  You will follow directions.  We may obtain results deemed; miraculous.  I work for miracles.  The MD said it is “unbelievable”,” a miracle”. Your MD can make such proclamations once, twice, three times, but on the tenth case; I don’t want to hear it. If your MD has something to say to me; it must be in writing. I am a specialist; that’s all they need to know.  If they do not know how to interact with an acupuncturists, there is a simple explanation; she is a specialist.  They know how to interact with a specialist.

    Cheers!
